Millbury Federated Church - A Place to Belong! From the Bylaws of the Millbury Federated Church: Article II - Purpose: The purpose of this Church shall be to bind together followers of Jesus Christ in the worship of God and in making His Will dominant in the lives of man, especially as that Will is set forth in the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Millbury Federated Church began as the Second Congregational
Church, founded in 1834, and the Millbury Methodist Episcopal Church,
founded in 1835. In 1918,
faced with small numbers, the two churches began to explore the idea of
federating, an unusual endeavor for the times. On April 6, 1919, the first joint service was held. Ever since, we have continued to seek God’s vision for the Church, reaching out in faith to accomplish His will.
The operations of the church are overseen by a Board of Management made up of members of both denomination. Our church life is divided into twelve areas each served by a "ministry team." Each team has a leader who determines what needs to be done and then finds volunteers to do the actual work. This is a very fluid and flexible arrangement allowing great opportunity for church members to be involved in those events that most interest them. Find out more about our ministry teams here. Our church offers two worship options. At 8:30 a.m. each Sunday, we have our "Morning Glory" service. This is a contemporary worship service featuring a live band, praise-and-worship songs, small-group prayer and occasional testimonies. At 10 a.m., there is a "coffee bridge" time with refreshments. A traditional worship service featuring hymns and the choir accompanied by the organ is held every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. Communion is offered at both services on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome to come and worship Jesus with us.
Sunday school is offered at 10:30 a.m. for children in
pre-school through the 8th grade (although high school
students are also welcome in the older classroom).
Childcare for infants through age 3 is available in the Nursery
during both worship services. We also have our own clown ministry, The King's Kids, led by our own "Little Rascal" (Bruce Fischer). The clown ministry is open to clowns of all ages, and typically they will perform a skit during worship services once or twice a year as well as perform for certain outside events such as the town 4th of July parade. In November 1965, the first classes of a Weekday Nursery School
were held. We offer a
two-day program for children who are two years away from starting
Kindergarten and a three-day program for those who will be starting
Kindergarten the next Fall. For
more information on the Weekday Nursery School, please call Karen at 508-865- The Millbury Federated Church is small in numbers but large in
heart. Our efforts
go beyond our church to our community and to the world at large.
The Lord’s Builders travel down South each spring to help
rebuild churches devastated by arson.
Other annual events include the Easter Cantata, Spring Potpourri
Fair, Dinner Dance for the
Blind, Vacation Bible School, Thanksgiving Ingathering (which provides
all the fixings, including turkey, to needy families in our community),
Community Block Party and Christmas Blessing Tree (which brings Christmas toys, books, games
and clothing to children). Other events sponsored by the Church include Tuesday evening
Bible study (during the Spring, Fall, and Winter), Tuesday togetherness
during the summer (pot-luck dinner, singing, and discussion), the John
Street feeding, occasional potluck lunches after services, and a Living Nativity complete with stable, manger, live
sheep, real babies, and beautifully costumed adults and children. Millbury Federated Church - A Place to Belong! |
